Safe Routes Nebraska began in 2005 as a federally funded program at the State level. The purpose of the funding was to provide a variety of information to educators, parents and community groups, to be used for the development of program which would enable and encourage student to walk and bike to school safely.
Although NDOR no longer funds these types of Safe Routes projects, there are a variety of free resources that have been created to assist schools and community groups as they plan their safe routes to school programs.
