About the Project

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will construct a new four-lane divided expressway on the south side of Fremont. The expressway will be approximately 3.2 miles in length and will include four travel lanes (two in each direction), inside and outside shoulders, and a raised median.

Project Updates

July 17, 2023

July 18 from 8:00 a.m. to noon, Highway 77 will be closed between Downing Street and Broad Street via the newly constructed Fremont Southeast Beltway for the grand opening ceremony.  Weather permitting, following the full closure and celebration of opening, all lanes of traffic will be open to travelers. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.

 

May 30, 2023

Weather permitting, Thursday, June 1, the Fremont Southeast Beltway Bridge over US-275 will be closed for one day for construction of expansion joints. Traffic exiting northbound and southbound from US-275 will not have access over the bridge. Additionally, eastbound beltway traffic, as well as westbound Old Highway 8 traffic will not have access over the bridge. Mainline US-275 will not be impacted by this work. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and around work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

May 24, 2023

Weather permitting, Friday, May 26, traffic will not have access to Downing Street via the newly constructed Fremont Southeast Beltway. The closure is necessary for the construction of expansion joints. It is anticipated to open by Saturday, May 27. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and around work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

May 3, 2023

The opening of the new US-275/Fremont Southeast Beltway Interchange to Downing Street will be postponed until the current phase of resurfacing on US-275 near Fremont is complete. Weather permitting, this phase of resurfacing will be completed by May 12, 2023. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

April 27, 2023

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, May 1, traffic will have access to Downing Street via the eastbound and westbound lanes of the newly constructed Fremont Southeast Beltway. The access is part of the three phased opening of the Fremont Southeast Beltway. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

April 20, 2023

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, April 24 through Wednesday, April 27, the southbound US-275 off ramp to US-77 and Old Hwy 8 will be closed. This closure is necessary for bridge construction on the US-77 overpass at the US-275 interchange. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

March 27, 2023

Weather permitting, Wednesday, March 29, from 9AM – 3PM, southbound US-275 traffic will be bypassed to the off-ramp and returning on-ramp at the existing Morningside Road interchange at reference post 154.72.  Also, weather permitting, Thursday, March 30, from 9AM – 3PM, southbound US-275 traffic will be bypassed to the off-ramp and returning on-ramp at the existing Military Avenue interchange at reference post 153.69 and at the existing 23rd Street interchange at reference post 152.69.  Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

March 15, 2023

Weather permitting, Friday, March 17, from 9AM - 3PM, southbound US-275 traffic will be bypassed to the off-ramp and returning on-ramp at the existing Morningside Road interchange at reference post 154.72. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

February 28, 2023

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, February 27, for two days, northbound US-275 traffic will be routed to the off-ramp and returning on-ramp at the new beltway interchange at Old Highway 8. Beginning Thursday, March, 2 for two days, southbound US-275 traffic at the same location will be routed to the off-ramp and returning on-ramp to bypass construction activities. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.


February 16, 2023

The overall project is approximately 95% complete, with full completion anticipated by July 5, 2023. Some major milestones remaining to be completed include:

  • -mainline beltway pavement connecting to the BNSF overpass
  • -asphalt overlays of the new US-275/US-77 interchange bridge, the old US-275/UPRR overpass, and the BNSF overpass
  • -the phased tie-in of the new beltway to existing US-77 at the north end of the Platte River bridge and the south end of Broad Street
  • -bridge and street lighting on the new beltway and directional signing structures at the US-275 interchange bridge, the Morningside Street bridge, the Military Street bridge, the 23rd Street bridge, and the Hwy 30 bridge

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

 

September 24, 2021

Weather permitting, beginning September 27 at 8:00 a.m., the access road between US-77 and South Main Street will be permanently closed. Closure is necessary for work on the US-77 connector/Broad Street roundabout intersection for the new Fremont Southeast Beltway. South Main Street access will be via Boulevard Street. Anticipated completion is fall 2022.


Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.


June 3, 2021

Weather permitting, beginning June 3 at 9:00 a.m. until noon and June 7 through June 11 at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily, old US-275 will be closed between Downing Street and Schilke Baseball Complex in Fremont.

Closures are necessary for bridge girder installation. Traffic will be maintained with a marked detour.


May 24, 2021

Weather permitting, beginning May 25 through May 28 at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily, Old US-275 will be closed between Downing Street and Schilke Baseball Complex in  Fremont.

Closures are necessary for bridge girder installation for the new Fremont Southeast Beltway. Traffic will be maintained with a  marked detour..


March 4, 2021

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. until Tuesday, March 9 at 6:00 a.m. eastbound US-275 will be closed at Morningside Road, westbound US-275 will remain open. And, weather permitting, beginning Tuesday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. until Wednesday, March 10 at 6:00 a.m. westbound US-275 will be closed at N-36, eastbound US-275 will remain open.

Closures are necessary for bridge girder installation at the new Fremont Southeast Beltway and US-275 Interchange. Traffic will be maintained with a marked detour. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.


July 10, 2020

Weather permitting, beginning Wednesday, July 15th until mid-October, Downing Street will be closed between Hills Farm Road and the Costco Feed Mill entrance. Access to Hills Farm Road will be maintained at S. Platte Avenue. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously through construction zones and to buckle up.


September 22, 2020

Weather permitting, beginning September 23, construction will begin for the new junction of the Fremont Southeast Beltway with the existing US-275 Expressway at Old Highway 8 (approximately US-275 Reference Post 156). Work will include construction of drainage structures, earthwork, ramps and MSE walls along with the bridge and mainline pavement.  Please follow all signage and be prepared to reduce speed.
